Summary, etc The Schools' Folklore Collection is a treasure trove of tales collected by national school children as part of a nationwide project to preserve Irish folklore in the 1930s. Tasked with asking their oldest relatives and neighbours about times past, stories and superstitions, the children gathered the information in their copy books and sent them to be archived in UCD. They have since been analysed by researchers and academics, but this is the first time that a selection has been made with the intention of reintroducing the stories to the general public. Including chapters on ghost stories, agriculture, forgotten trades, schooling and pastimes, the result is an incredible ark of folk history that tells us about ourselves, and how we lived long ago.
